7th annual Bivalve bash

Please join Taylor Shellfish Farms and the Skagit Conservation Education Alliance (SCEA) for the 7th Annual Samish Bay Bivalve Bash and Low Tide Mud Run.

The Samish Bay Bivalve Bash celebrates the cultural, biological and economic importance of shellfish grown in Samish Bay. “The idea is to have some summer fun on the beach while raising awareness of water quality issues,” says Taylor Shellfish Farms President Bill Taylor.

In addition to shellacious bivalve fare by area restaurants, a salmon dinner by the Samish Nation and luscious Skagit raspberry shortcake, the Bivalve Bash offers activities for all ages: Mud Run, Kid’s Beach, Oyster Shell Sculpture Contest, shell crafts, face painting, crab races, oyster shuffleboard, beach walks, amateur shucking contests, mud volleyball, silent auction and more. Dance music provided by The Atlantics 2:00-5PM. Beer Garden by La Conner Brewing and Chateau Ste. Michelle. One popular Bivalve Bash activity is sitting on the beach quietly enjoying one of Puget Sound’s most scenic vistas.

Yard for yard the Northwest’s toughest foot race, the popular and photogenic 250-yard Low Tide Mud Run starts at low tide, 1:53PM with the 100 yard Kid’s Mud Run (ages 8-12) at 1:15 pm. This uniquely strenuous race, limited to the first 200 entrants, requires peak fitness. Shoes required. Runners stuck in the mud will be rescued before the incoming tide. Clean-up hoses provided. For photos of prior Mud Runs and entry information go to www.bivalvebash.com.

Bivalve Bash activities kick off at 10:30 am with Mud Run registration, Oyster Shell Sculpture Contest, oyster shuffleboard, Kid’s Beach and Mr. Krabby’s Kid Pond. Beer Garden, food concessions and other activities begin at 11:00.
