Neal Chism cleans up the Duwamish

Submitted by Neal Chism

Trash on the river is staying at low levels with small amounts coming in due to the rains of the past days. Some of the trash is pretty old stuff with signs of it Chism trash 2-15-10being in the water a long time - perhaps coming in from Elliott Bay.

No discharges were noted along the shore of the first river mile and the
river water was reasonably clear with some cloudiness due to the rains.

Chism Kingfisher 2-15-10Many birds were observed. The young Peregrine couple is now back under
the south-east column of the West Seattle "high" bridge.  I have not seen these two since last fall. An eagle pair has taken over a nest that the Ospreys were using on top of one of the light poles.  The male of this pair is massive in size. A pair of great blue herons were seen on the west side of Kellogg Island. The kingfishers were very busy dropping into the water and getting at the small fish. The sun came out and I took a few pictures.
