Patrol updates - May 2010

Jennifer Barwick

I was on the beach south of the Fauntleroy Ferry quite a lot in May. The really good news is that there was very little trash on the beach. I collected a total of 16 pounds of trash, mostly plastic bits, glass bottles, aluminum cans, ropes and 6 golf balls.

The bad news is that I'm seeing A LOT of yard waste dumped over bulkheads onto the beach and big patches of yard waste floating in the sound. I'm assuming that it is illegal to dump yard waste into the sound?

The other thing I'm starting to see is a large number of dead jellyfish. While I often see large red/orange jellyfish, the dead ones are smaller and either clear or white in color.
