Saturday, September 19th is International Coastal Cleanup Day! People around the world will head out to remove accumulated trash from their local shorelines and beaches. Together, we will document the types of debris entering our waterways in an effort to inform practical solutions to the global problem of marine trash.
Due to COVID-19, volunteer group sizes will be smaller (up to 5 participants allowed). If anyone is experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms or has been exposed we ask you do not sign up for these events. Volunteers are also required to wear face masks while participating in these cleanups..
Participating Puget Sound locations are marked on the map below. Please note, these sites are the only public sites available! Other cleanups will be happening at different locations on this day but these Beach Captains will be bringing their small private groups. We are in the works of hopefully adding a few more sites! Click on a pin to view registration details for each event, or contact Kristin Holschbach for any questions! All events start at different times and some may include different time frames to sign up for.
Puget Soundkeeper also celebrates International Coastal Cleanup during the months of September and October. If you are unable to register and still want to participate please reach out to Kristin at Kristin@pugetsoundkeeper.org to find how you can organize a small group cleanup.
If you would like to join a cleanup on the outer coast, visit the CoastSavers website to find out more!
Trash data will be collected at each event. Prepare for the big day by downloading the CleanSwell app . Hard copies of data cards will also be provided but these year we are encouraging folks to use the provided app.
