FULL! Lake Union Kayak Patrol

December 12, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Volunteer patrols form a central part of our effort to monitor pollution and prevent debris from contaminating our waterways. While on patrol, we keep an eye out for abnormal discharges and oil slicks, remove accumulated debris, and check for the application of best management practices by shoreline businesses.

Volunteers will be outfitted in double kayaks and paddle to a designated area of Lake Union to monitor water pollution and remove trash. Kayaks are generously provided free of charge by the Northwest Outdoor Center. If necessary, volunteers may help report pollution concerns to an appropriate agency.

No prior kayaking experience is needed and all equipment is provided (boats, paddles, PFDs, spray skirts and equipment for cleaning up trash). Participants must dress for the weather and expect to get a little wet. Personal belongings can be stored in the NWOC office. A safety overview will be delivered before heading out.

Please note: During this time of the year weather is variable and there is a chance we will have to cancel the patrol.

Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm

Location: Northwest Outdoor Center (NWOC) – 2100 Westlake Ave N #1, Seattle, WA 98109
