Pint-Sized Science: Patagonia Seattle

August 10, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Come join us for an evening about marine debris while enjoying free beer from Ninkasi Brewing! It is estimated that by the year 2050, there will be more pieces of plastic in the oceans than fish. For this event, we will be hearing from three groups who are actively working to research the effects and to decrease the amount of plastic in our waterways. The evening will begin with a talk from the federal perspective:  NOAA’s Marine Debris Program will provide an overview of their work and their accomplishments. This will be followed by a talk from a researcher at the University of Puget Sound who will provide the latest on research on microplastics. We will end our evening with a talk from Puget Soundkeeper on their work to reduce the amount of marine debris in Puget Sound—and they will provide ways in which you can get involved with these efforts!

Peter Murphy, NOAA Marine Debris
Peter Hodum, U of Puget Sound
Kathryn Davis, Puget Soundkeeper
