Rail Watchers
Citizen Survey of Hazardous Materials Transported Through Puget Sound
Thousands of rail cars pass through Seattle every week, many carrying hazardous substances, yet information is incomplete on the type and quantity of chemicals transported. This jeopardizes the effectiveness of local emergency responders and, in turn, threatens the health and safety of human communities and our waterways. Join Soundkeeper this winter as we survey local rail yards to documents what is passing through our city. Volunteer Orientation includes a short trip to the Balmer Rail Yard in Interbay.
