Puget Soundkeeper has settled a major Clean Water Act case with APM Terminals, a container port operator, to protect South Puget Sound and Commencement Bay from polluted stormwater runoff.
In response to citizen action, the city of Tacoma has agreed to overhaul its industrial wastewater program and pay $70,000 to support water quality projects in South Puget Sound.
The Clean Water Act empowers organizations like Soundkeeper to take action in situations where excessive pollution by corporate entities isn’t being handled by the agency in charge.
