Protecting & Preserving Puget Sound
Marine debris, particularly plastic debris, pollutes many aquatic environments. Increasingly, this is a global problem as trash accumulates in the world’s oceans and concentrates in large gyres. Once in the environment, it poses substantial risk to marine life and human health.
On September 17, hundreds of people in Puget Sound and along the Washington coast will participate in the 31st annual International Coastal Cleanup, the largest single day volunteer effort to clean up beaches, lakes and rivers worldwide.

In the Puget Sound region, over 465 volunteers collected and removed 5141 pounds of debris from 15 miles of shoreline.
Since early September, Puget Soundkeeper Alliance has been partnering with a variety of groups and communities to complete shoreline cleanups throughout the Puget Sound as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup!
Puget Soundkeeper Alliance will lead a cleanup effort at Centennial Park/Myrtle Edwards Park and five other sites as part of the 27th annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), the world’s largest volunteer effort to help protect our oceans, lakes and rivers.
