We have been hearing a lot lately about how our oceans are in trouble, how sea levels are rising and that our oysters and other shellfish can no longer survive in the Puget Sound. Climate Change is affecting the Pacific Northwest in some dramatic ways.
We must being to take this seriously. Yet once again, Big Coal is threatening the Northwest with egregious plans to ship 44 million tons of coal through our region to markets overseas. These plans would release nearly as much carbon as the entire state of Washington does currently!
Join Power Past Coal for a community workshop to learn more about the coal exports proposal in Longview and how it affects the Puget Sound, our climate, and our children’s future. You will also learn all you need to know about the upcoming hearing in Tacoma on Oct 17th.
Nearly 8,000 people attended the hearings last year on the Cherry Point proposal, now we must do it again, to make sure no community is sacrificed for dirty coal.
What: Coal Exports Organizing Event and Scoping Workshop
When: Wednesday, Oct 9th 6:30—8:30 pm
Where: Trinity United Methodist Church, 6512 23rd Ave NW, Seattle
Who: Special Guest Speaker, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn; Chris Wilke, Puget Soundkeeper; Robin Everett, Sierra Club.
Together, we can make sure that these public hearings send a clear message to decision makers that we’re concerned for our communities, our region and the planet, and we’re not giving up until all the proposed coal terminals in the Northwest are taken off the table.
